Cathie Barrett & Maddie - 300mm
Maddie and I are honoured to be part of this talented team representing Canada!
I discovered agility 15 years ago when I took classes with my German Shepherd Dog, Riley, for something fun for us to learn together, and as a way to challenge her physically and mentally. I learned the sport with my GSD all those years ago from Art Newman, the man who brought the sport of agility to Canada.
I never had any intention of competing in the sport until a friend convinced me to enter a trial with Riley. That was 13 years ago ....
Lo and behold, I was hooked! The rest is history as they say. Maddie is my second Boston Terrier to play agility. Logan, now 12 years old and mostly blind, was my first agility Boston and he took me across the country to 6 National events before losing his sight and ending our agility partnership way too soon.
I currently compete with Maddie and Annie, a Border Collie Mix. Kheely, my Belgian Malinois, and Finn, another Boston Terrier are works in progress and their training continues.
Maddie, or Maddie the Monster as she is often affectionately called, is 5 years old and has so much drive! She loves playing agility however, until almost a year ago, she would stress in the ring in competition. We’ve worked hard to get through that and build her confidence and our connection. I love how our agility partnership has developed over the years. I’m looking forward to new adventures with this crazy kid!
